Pronounced ‘oi’ – her name Aoy means sugar cane in Thai.
AOY’S STORY
Barely able to reach the kitchen counter, Aoy loved playing around as her dad’s sous-chef. Her love for cooking started when she was 8, when she could taste a spoonful of her favorite curry, learned his recipe secrets, and handed him ingredients to add to the pot. When she had her own family, she was determined to pass this same passion and through her food and the way she cooked.
Over the past 30 years, she’s learned from master chefs across the world and has travelled across Thailand, China, and Paris. Her recipe repertoire spans countries – from authentic Thai dishes, Hong Kong and Chinese Classics, traditional French dishes, and home-cooked Italian. And while she’s never opened her own restaurant before, she’s been a guest chef at the World Bank for their special Asian and held courses in Morocco and Bangkok. She brings this multicultural experience to imagine and create dishes – finding ways to experiment with new ingredients and adapt them to make traditional dishes shine.
She brings her experience living in America in 3 different moments in her life to connect with others along their cooking journey. Her first time living here was as a graduate student, the second as a mom of two young kids, and the third for the past 9 years, when her kids moved to college and her husband moved here for his job. She hopes to share her tricks over the years and how she’s been able to adapt and find ingredients to make authentic Thai dishes. She wants to inspire those who love Thai cuisine and empower them – no matter where they are in the world – to feel like they’re enjoying meals back in Thailand.
